It was at the beginning of the 90s when I imagined a pendant made from a glass globe inside which an ivy seedling could grow: that's how Botanicus was born! A ready-to-wear mini garden.
No one before had dared so much. Of course finding the way to produce it was not easy. After much research I found a shop in Murano where an old craftsman had the patience to translate my indications into practice..
We practically worked together, one next to the other. It didn't take long to find the right tune and since then I've produced most of my glass collections with him.
Botanicus perfectly represents my work, so close to nature.
My mother collected many varieties of ivy in her garden in Bellagio: from the smallest leaves to the largest, of all the intensity of the green, up to the variegated white or yellow varieties. When Botanicus was presented, I still remember the great confusion of some customers not prepared for this novelty, unable to manage "a living thing".
Despite my instructions, they called me alarmed t the run out of water in the glass bubble. More than once I had to go to them with a real first aid kit with water syringes and spare plants ... However Botanicus was a real success and made me known internationally becoming a real brand also available in other collections and in design objects, all in Murano glass.

« Le bijou, depuis toujours inanimé, devient vivant… ». Nous étions aux débuts des années 90 quand j'ai imaginé ce pendentif composé d’un globe de verre à l'intérieur duquel pouvait pousser un brin de lierre. Botanicus était né : un mini jardin suspendu à porter sur soi.
Personne n'avait encore osé ! Trouver la façon de le produire n’a pas été facile. Après de nombreuses recherches, j'ai découvert un atelier à Murano où un vieil artisan a eu la patience de suivre mes indications. Nous travaillions ensemble, l’un à côté de l'autre, en symbiose. Depuis, j'ai produit avec lui une grande partie de mes collections en verre. Botanicus illustre parfaitement mon travail, très proche de la nature.
Ma mère collectionnait beaucoup de variétés de lierre dans son jardin de Bellagio, des feuilles les plus menues aux plus grandes, avec toutes les intensités de verts jusqu'à des variétés bigarrées de blanc ou de jaune. Quand Botanicus est sorti, je me rappelle encore la confusion de quelques clientes qui n’étaient pas préparées à cette nouveauté, se sentant incapables de gérer « une chose vivante ».
Malgré mes instructions, elles m'appelaient alarmées quand l’eau s’épuisait dans la bulle de verre. Je me suis souvent rendu chez elles avec un kit de secours comprenant seringues pour l'eau et plantes de rechange. Botanicus a été un vrai succès et m'a fait connaître au niveau international. Le pendentif a été ensuite décliné en objets de design, en verre de Murano également.
“…il gioiello da sempre inanimato diventa vivente …” Eravamo agli inizi degli anni 90 quando ho immaginato un pendente fatto da un globo di vetro all’interno del quale potesse crescere una piantina di edera: così è nato Botanicus! Un mini giardino da portare sospeso su di te.
Nessuno prima di allora aveva osato tanto… Certo trovare il modo di produrlo non è stato facile. Dopo molte ricerche ho trovato una bottega a Murano dove un vecchio artigiano ha avuto la pazienza di sopportare le mie indicazioni.
Praticamente lavoravamo assieme, uno a fianco dell’altro. Non c’è voluto molto per trovare la giusta sintonia e da allora ho prodotto con lui gran parte delle mie collezioni in vetro.
Botanicus rappresenta perfettamente il mio lavoro, così vicino alla natura.
Mia madre collezionava molte varietà di edera nel suo giardino di Bellagio: dalle foglie più minute alle più grandi, di tutte le intensità del verde, fino alle varietà screziate di bianco o di giallo. Quando Botanicus fu presentato, ricordo ancora la grande confusione di alcuni clienti non preparati a questa novità. Incapaci di gestire “una cosa viva”.
Nonostante le mie istruzioni mi chiamavano allarmati all’esaurirsi dell’acqua nella bolla di vetro. Più di una volta ho dovuto recarmi da loro con un vero e proprio kit di pronto soccorso con siringhe per l’acqua e piantine di ricambio… Comunque Botanicus è stato un vero successo e mi ha fatto conoscere a livello internazionale diventando un vero e proprio brand declinato anche in altre collezioni ed in oggetti di design, tutti in vetro di Murano.
